420 holds a significant meaning for marijuana enthusiasts around the world. The most intriguing discussion around “420” is that no one seems to agree on exactly why 420 is such a special number. Depending on who you ask, or their state of 420-ness, there are as many varieties of answers as there are strains of Indica in Colorado. legit marijuana dispensary
The origin of the term 420, celebrated worldwide by weed enthusiasts every April 20th, has long been “spaced” by the clouded memories of the folks who made it a phenomenon.
Of the various legends, myths and theories, which do you believe…?
Myth: Some say the 420 legend originated in 1939 with the science fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft in a short story about an explorer traveling to the planet Venus who falls under the influence of a “hallucinogenic mirage plant” that sounds a lot like marijuana. When the explorer’s “trip” subsides, the man is surprised to find the time was only 4:20 – only H.P. himself can confirm or deny this reference.
Legend: Another legend says 4:20 was the time a group of teenagers in the 1970s would meet near their high school in San Rafeal, CA to smoke weed together – we may be able to find one of these rebels to confirm this one…..
Theory: The California police dispatch code for “marijuana smoking in progress” – according to noted urban mythbuster Snopes.com, Section 420 of the California penal code refers to obstructing entry on public land. legit marijuana dispensary
Myth: It is Hitler’s birthday – personally I prefer not to think about that crazy little man while I’m kicked back on my deck enjoying the comforts of Mary Jane and the panoramic snow cap view at sunset.
Legend: Tea time in Holland – yes this may be…. and “it’s five o’clock somewhere”. No, 420 is also not the date that cannabis was legalized in pot paradise Amsterdam.
Theory: There are approximately 420 identified chemicals in marijuana – when there are currently 315 known natural chemicals in marijuana.
Myth: Wavy-Gravy, a hippie icon with his own ice cream flavor had been hanging out with the Grateful Dead for decades. He suggests it began “somewhere in the foggy mists of time. – what time is it now? When is eternity…..
Legend: The Grateful Dead may have started or expanded 420. One way may have been that they stayed in room 420 while on tour. Deadheads spread the wake-and-bake message of 420 around the country – our sources confirm the Grateful Dead did not always stay in Room 420 in hotels on the road.
Theory: 420 was the number of a bill in the U.S. Congress (SB 420) to legalize weed – in 2003, California Senate Bill 420 (SB 420), also known as the Medical Marijuana Program Act, established guidelines for Proposition 215, such as how many plants and how much processed cannabis a medical marijuana patient is allowed to have. legit marijuana dispensary Oddly, the specific legislator, clerk or aide who apparently numbered the bill in a nod to the 420 tradition has never been identified.
Myth: 420 come from a Bob Dylan song – this is the most charming tale of all. In “Rainy Day Woman #12 and #35,” Dylan repeatedly chants, “Everybody must get stoned!” Even more convincingly, 12 multiplied by 35 equals 420! Very creative but Bob may have been too stoned to do the math!
Legend: Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion) said in 2009, “Me and Willie Nelson recorded [a] song in Amsterdam on 4/20, 2009. It was a beautiful day, it was a roomful of smoke. It was historic.” The song, of course, was “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me (When I’m Gone)”.

Five Flawless Fixtures Fit for 420!
A 420 two years in the making is nearly upon us, and while we still recommend being smart and adjusting to your personal circumstances, it’s at least safe to say things are looking a bit more optimistic than they were at this time last year. While it’s fun to go out on a limb and try some new products on this holiday, we think it’s always wise to have a few tried-and-true classics in the stash to fall back on if things don’t work out. Today, we take a look at some longtime staples on the Elemental menu that’ve been serving as visitor’s go-tos for years.
Redwood Remedies’ More Cowbell: This menu mainstay may have a funny name, but More Cowbell (21.56% THC) from Redwood Remedies has been bringing the serious funk for years that has our visitors constantly asking for more. Offering chunky, finger-like buds with a decidedly earthy aroma, where More Cowbell really delivers is the effects — translating superbly to smoke, the supremely relaxing effects of Cowbell are felt by most immediately. We’d recommend reserving this strain for your nighttime session to ensure you make it through the whole day! $70/quarter, WSL.
Elemental Gardens’ The True OG: Yes, we just profiled The True last week for our ‘Five Fabulous Flowers for April Showers’ piece, but the bossman might be upset if I didn’t include it here as well — plus is there really a more ubiquitous product on the EWC menu? The True OG (22.71% THC) has been around before Elemental was even Elemental, and folks come in from far and wide just to lay their eyes on this strain that has garnered a following across the world. A pungent, classic OG aroma coupled with famously couch-locky effects, visitors know what they’re getting with the consistently dank True before they even step into our showroom. Have The True on deck to come out of the bullpen if that strain you took a leap on doesn’t hit quite the way you planned. $40/eighth, WSL.
Dabblicious’ Strawberry Sherbet Live Sauce: Our longest-serving extract provider on the menu, we’ve collaborated with Dabblicious to bring home High Times Cannabis Cups and to consistently stock wonderful concentrates on the menu over the years. Strawberry Sherbet (70.90% THC) is an indica-dominant offering from the Dabblicious team, offering a saucy, dabbable consistency with an intensely sweet terpene profile that’ll please the palates of fans of fruity flavors. With ample THC and decidedly indica-heavy effects for most, we recommend the Sherbet as an end-of-day treat to help you wind down after a busy holiday. $30/gram, WSL.
Raw Gardens’ Sour Stomper Live Resin Cartridge: We can think of only a few names that’ve created as much buzz as Raw Gardens’ extracts when they hit the menu several years back, and that interest has sustained as they’re still one of the most popular providers available at EWC. Sour Stomper (80.60% THC) has long been a fan favorite for its robust sour/sweet flavor profile and balanced-hybrid effects, making it ideal for either daytime or nighttime use. Raw’s impressive cartridge design makes for smooth, hard hits as well, that’ll be sure to leave visitors satisfied. $25/half gram, WSL.
Clarified Confections’ Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie: The folks at Clarified are not only longtime friends of Elemental, but also have been providing some of the most delicious and potent edibles around for the better part of the last decade! We love them all, but the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip may be our favorite, with a fall-apart-in-your-mouth texture and a mouthwatering sweet-and-savory combination that always has us yearning for more. Packing 100mg THC per package, we recommend starting out small so you don’t overdo it with this strikingly sweet treat. $15/each, WSL. legit marijuana dispensary
